Golf Courses in Nicaragua

When you think of Nicaragua, you do not think of golfing.  However, with tourism increasing yearly,  golfing is getting popular for tourists and locals alike.   There are currently 4 golf courses in the country, and most likely more to come in the future.  Below you will see information on all 4 golf courses, and we encourage you to golf all of them.

Nejapa Golf & Country Club

Nejapa Golf & Country Club is located in the capital city, Managua.  The course is the oldest in the country and was built in 1940, near the sulfurous waters of Lake Nejapa.  17 years later, the course was moved to it's present site, over 172 acres.

This 18 hole golf course is one of the funnest in Nicaragua and a must try if you visit Managua.  There is a cool country club area on site with tennis courts, swimming pool, change rooms, restaurants, bars and more.  The course has a driving range as well.  A great way to spend the day in Managua.

Guacalito de La Isla

This golf course is the newest in Nicaragua, and is located at the private beach community in Tola, called Guacalito de la Isla.  The resort and community is built by Nicaraguan billionaire, Carlos Pellas, and the golf course was designed and built by pro golfer, David McLay Kidd.

One of the most expensive courses in the country, it is an 18 hole course, with the last hole finishing on the beach.  After golf, we recommend hanging out at the beach bar and lounge.  The cost per person for 18 holes, cart and club rentals is around $125 - $150 USD.   This is a very fun course, and the course also has a driving range to warm up on.

Gran Pacifica

Gran Pacifica is an 18 hole golf course, and is a Haugen designed course. The course is located just north of Montelimar on the Pacific Ocean.  On the fourth hole, you will be teeing off facing the ocean.  The course is located at a large community development, and has restaurants and a club house.

The course is only around an hour drive from Managua, and is a good day trip from the capital.  You can stay at the development by renting a house or condo, or even just a short drive south at the Barcelo all inclusive resort.

Hacienda Iguana

Hacienda Iguana Golf & Beach Club is a residential beachfront community in Tola, right next to the new Costa Esmeralda Airport.  On site, there is a 9 hole golf course, and probably one of the least expensive in the country, ranging anywhere from $17 - $35 per person, depending on the time of the year.  

The course was designed by golf pro, Niel Oldenberg, and was opened in 2004.  On site there is a club house where you can rent clubs, carts, etc.  There is also a driving range by the community club house on the 5th hole and a pitch and putt practice hole by the condominiums.  After golfing, we recommend to check out the beach club where you can eat and drink.
